Everlasting Immortal Firmament Book 05 Chapter 173: The Unlucky Chameleon

“You have been following me for quite a while already, right? Come on out!” Gu Hai called out.

“Huh?” Ao Shun’s expression changed.

Someone followed us? I am an Upper Heavenly Palace Realm cultivator, yet I actually failed to discover someone following us?

Who is it?

How did Hall Master discover it?

At the side, Yanxuan and Yehua stared skeptically at Gu Hai. How is there anyone here?

Gu Hai could not sense whether someone was there, neither did he have the ability. However, he could guess it.

The Mosquito Daoist!

How could Gu Hai not guess it, given his intellect and the various strange occurrences? It could only be the Mosquito Daoist relentlessly following him, causing him endless trouble.

Gu Hai had even mentioned him to Sima Changkong previously, so that Sima Changkong would not accidentally expose himself to the Azure Emperor.

The Mosquito Daoist must have a reason for following me all the while. Is he seeking out Chang Ming? Gu Hai did not want the Mosquito Daoist following him anymore.

The Mosquito Daoist had lured over expert after expert. While Gu Hai managed to turn the danger to his advantage a few times, he could not do so every time. What if he failed the next time? Hence, it was best to deal with this now.

Was the Mosquito Daoist around?

The Mosquito Daoist was in a distant forest.

The Mosquito Daoist recently discovered that it was a fake Gu Hai who had severely injured Mister Dongfang, so he started feeling restless again. However, Gu Hai later finished off the Azure Emperor.

Even if the Azure Emperor was not as strong as me, he would not be too far off. Yet, Gu Hai managed to kill him? Furthermore, Gu Hai did so in front of Jiang Lianshan?

The Mosquito Daoist immediately shrank back, feeling depressed.

The Mosquito Daoist possessed extraordinary patience. If there are no opportunities this time, there is still the next time. I’ll just remain hidden by your side and bide my time. I’ll wait. There will be a time when I can kill you in one strike.

However, what did Gu Hai say? He knows that I’m here?

How does he know? I have never exposed myself.

The Mosquito Daoist felt conflicted and worried. What should I do? What should I do? Gu Hai is very incredible. If he discovered me and attacked with his full power, wouldn’t I be…?

“Should I invite you out?” Gu Hai said coldly.

Gu Hai could guess the Mosquito Daoist’s thoughts. Therefore, he put on a strong front, looking coldly at the surroundings as though somewhat impatient.

Ao Shun kept scanning the side but found nothing.

The Mosquito Daoist felt tortured inside. What should I do?

Seeing Gu Hai’s cold gaze, the Mosquito Daoist showed a faint, bitter smile. I have no other choice. I’ll come out.

Just as the Mosquito Daoist was about to come out, the grass in a forest near him suddenly shook. Then, what seemed like a strong gust fled into the distance.

“What? There is someone else?” The Mosquito Daoist’s expression changed.

Someone else is following Gu Hai? Could it be that Gu Hai did not discover me? That scared this Daoist lord!

However, who is it? To think that this Daoist lord also failed to discover him!

When that gust rushed out, Gu Hai’s face sank. Is it the Mosquito Daoist? However, that gust of wind seems to be running away.

Before Gu Hai could speak, Ao Shun glared and rushed over. “Halt!”

Gu Hai’s face sank when Ao Shun rushed out. “Ao Shun, be careful!”

If it is the Mosquito Daoist, Ao Shun won’t be a match for him.

However, Ao Shun kicked in the next moment.

This novel is available on Hosted Novel.

Ao Shun kicked back that fleeing expert, sending him crashing through many trees and a mountain, then rolling on the ground, toppling countless trees.

“Huh?” Gu Hai felt slightly startled.

Ao Shun sent the Mosquito Daoist flying with one kick? That’s impossible. Although Ao Shun is in the Upper Heavenly Palace Realm, he is not that powerful. Is it someone else?

Gu Hai looked at the collapsed trees in the distance. The Mosquito Daoist also looked over but did not see anyone. That person seemed transparent.

Ao Shun managed to find that person. He instantly approached and slammed his palm down.

“Spare me! Spare me! Don’t! Don’t! Argh!” A startled cry came from the forest.

A loud report rang out, followed by a spurt of a mouthful of blood. Then, a large body appeared before everyone.

“A chameleon?” Gu Hai felt slightly startled.

A large chameleon spirit lay on the ground, vomiting blood as it gazed at Ao Shun in horror.

“A chameleon? Humph! No wonder I did not discover you. If not for following the draconic aura, I would not have found you. Who are you, and why are you following us?” Ao Shun demanded coldly.

[TL Note: The literal translation for chameleon is color-changing dragon. It is considered a relative of the dragon, probably because it is a reptile.]

Ao Shun approached and stepped on it.

The chameleon spirit immediately transformed into a bloodied man and begged for mercy. “Spare me! Crown Prince Ao Shun, spare me!”

Ao Shun extended his hand and sealed the chameleon’s cultivation. Then, he brought the chameleon aboard Gu Hai’s flying ship.

“That nearly scared this Daoist lord to death! Ptooey! A chameleon spirit? You nearly caused this Daoist lord to expose myself! When I have time later, this Daoist lord will go to your lair and kill all the chameleons!” The Mosquito Daoist released his bated breath in the forest.

Bang! The chameleon spirit fell on the deck and rolled three times before coming to a halt.

Gu Hai approached step by step.

“Your Majesty, it is just a Lower Heavenly Palace Realm chameleon spirit. A chameleon spirit’s skills at camouflage are second to none among the animal spirits. How did Your Majesty discover him?” Ao Shun looked at Gu Hai with some awe.

Gu Hai felt perplexed. How would I know there was a chameleon spirit? I was calling for the Mosquito Daoist.

“Who are you? Why are you following me?” Gu Hai questioned coldly.

“I-I was just passing by! I really was just passing by. Senior, spare me! Spare me!” The chameleon incessantly pleaded for mercy.

“You are not willing to say? Hah! Ao Shun, we are eating chameleon today,” Gu Hai said.

The chameleon’s expression changed. “Don’t-don’t-don’t! Senior, I really did not know—”

However, Ao Shun stepped forward and reached out to tear the chameleon apart.

The chameleon immediately said with a bitter smile, “I was wrong! Mister Gu, spare me! Mister Gu, spare me! I’ll speak! I’ll speak!”

“Oh? Now, you recognize me?” Gu Hai said indifferently.

“Yes, yes! This insignificant animal spirit was foolish to try to pull one over Mister Gu. I don’t dare anymore! I don’t dare!” the chameleon spirit said with a lowered head.

“Speak,” Gu Hai said indifferently.

“Yes! Elder Xuan En sent me to follow Mister Gu!” the chameleon spirit said bitterly.

“Oh? Xuan En? The Myriad Age Daoist Sect’s Xuan En? I spared him once before, yet he sent you to follow me? Why?” Gu Hai asked while glaring.

“I…no. Uh! I…” The chameleon stumbled over his words.

Gu Hai did not say anything, only staring at the chameleon spirit.

Perhaps the pressure from Gu Hai was too great. The chameleon spirit finally said bitterly, “Elder Xuan En is leading a team to pursue Zang Yulian. However, Zang Yulian was very crafty, and we lost her. Elder Xuan En saw you when we arrived in Divine Farmer City and felt that Zang Yulian would seek you out. He believed that if we followed you, we would find Zang Yulian, so…”

Gu Hai frowned. “Zang Yulian? Who is that?”

The chameleon spirit gaped. However, he did not dare to hide anything. “Zang Yulian is the previous Supreme Ascendant Dao’s Grand Mohist. She is the Grand Mohist you met during the Ten Thousand Sages Convention’s calligraphy Dao competition.”

“Oh? Zang Yulian? He is pursuing her? Why?” Gu Hai asked.

“I…” The chameleon spirit looked pained.

“Speak!” Gu Hai glared.

“Zang Yulian passed her position to Lin Waner. Elder Xuan Du wants to track down Zang Yulian to get her to change the heir. That’s why Elder Xuan En is leading a team to…” The chameleon spirit explained everything he knew.

Gu Hai narrowed his eyes slightly. “So much has actually happened in the Myriad Age Daoist Sect?”

“Yes,” the chameleon spirit said with a lowered head.

“Xuan En? Hah! How bold of him! I let him off once. To think that he is still so reckless?!” Gu Hai glared.

“Mister Gu, this has nothing to do with me. I am just a guardian animal spirit of the Myriad Age Daoist Sect. I was just following orders!” the chameleon spirit said in fear.

“Don’t worry. I won’t kill you. Just bring me to meet Xuan En later,” Gu Hai said.

“Huh? Ah?!” The chameleon spirit’s expression changed.

“Hall Master, why later?” Ao Shun asked, appearing puzzled.

“Because the person I am waiting for has not appeared yet.” Gu Hai shook his head.

“What?” Ao Shun said blankly.

Gu Hai looked around. “Alright. The chameleon spirit is just a short detour. It’s time for you to come out!”

The surrounding forests remained silent.

After the earlier experience, the Mosquito Daoist was no longer in a rush. What if Gu Hai is just trying to trick me, and he does not know for sure that I am here? Maybe the chameleon earlier was just unlucky? What if…what if there are others?

“Hall Master, there should not be anyone else,” Ao Shun said in confusion.

Having the chameleon spirit appear was already surprising. How can there be others? We have been low-key on our journey. How can there be more?

Indeed, the surroundings remained silent. No one answered.

“Mosquito Daoist, stop hiding. Come out! Aren’t you tired from following us from Borderless Heavenly Capital to here?” Gu Hai called out again.

The Mosquito Daoist?

Ao Shun’s expression changed as he immediately raised his guard.

The expressions of the chameleon spirit, Yehua, and Yanxuan changed. Is that true? The Mosquito Daoist is following us?

In the mountain forest, the Mosquito Daoist’s expression changed as well.

Earlier, he had been feeling lucky. Now, Gu Hai had called him out by name. There’s no other possibility. He really did discover me.

Gu Hai did not say anything more as he looked down coldly.

“Why am I so unlucky?” The Mosquito Daoist finally gritted his teeth and flew out after struggling with himself for a long time.

When the Mosquito Daoist flew out, millions of mosquitoes accompanied him, buzzing loudly.

“Gu Hai, you discovered me long ago?” the Mosquito Daoist shouted ferociously as he stood in the sky.

“There really is someone?” Yehua goggled.

“The Mosquito Daoist?” Ao Shun immediately appeared like he faced a formidable enemy.

The chameleon was stupefied, disbelief written across his face.

“Could it be that Mister Gu was calling for the Mosquito Daoist earlier and not me?” The chameleon spirit looked at Gu Hai, hoping to get an answer from Gu Hai. He felt like he was on the verge of mental collapse.

Gu Hai glanced at the chameleon. “I was looking for the Mosquito Daoist, but you came out on your own. No one forced you.”

The chameleon goggled. He felt so depressed that he wanted to vomit blood.

Upon seeing the Mosquito Daoist, the chameleon spirit felt murderous. You should have just come out earlier! You made me expose myself out of fright. I’m innocent! I’m really innocent. Why am I so unlucky?

Novel Notes

Hi everyone! How are you all doing? Anyway, I'm here to ask for some help today. I recently discovered another grammar checker tool called prowritingaid and am switching over from Grammarly Premium to that cause it's been pretty buggy on my google docs. Anyway, apparently, Prowritingaid has a referral program that can help me save costs. If I can get ten people to sign up for FREE accounts and edit using it for a bit, they will give me a free one-year premium license, and if I get twenty people, that's a lifetime license. I do plan to pay for the premium (likely lifetime), but I wanna try and save costs at this moment, esp since the income coming from translating is not good at the moment, and I'm still running on savings.

So I am now asking that you help me out by signing up and using it for a bit (You will need to test out some text, otherwise the referral will not count. Just copy in maybe a long document and go through some of their edits.). Here is my referral link.

You can also request for a free 2 week trial for the premium here:

Here's a little incentive to help me out too, if you can prove that you have signed up (You can show me a screenshot on discord), I'll give you 500 Dragon Scales 🐉, which is equal to a one chapter patreon access for one month.
