Chapter 673: When the Rain Continues
A group of ten flood dragons were flying in the air. Each of them carried a group of experts on their backs as they flew further and further into the darkness of Diyu.
These flood dragons were carrying Yanluo and the remaining contestants for the position of the Judge of Hell along with their guards.
This group of around a hundred people was incredibly intimidating to bandits as such a large group of Gods descended into the depths of hell.
At first, before their trip, Hui Yue expected that there would be a desolate atmosphere during their journey. He expected that they would see a barren, lifeless land, but he quickly realized that he was mistaken.
The sky was filled with Gods who traveled through Diyu from city to city and province to province. Many caravans were transporting goods from Youdu and from outside of Diyu to the many different Courts of Hell.
These caravans were all made up of flying magical beasts rather than flying on their own, and they all numbered at least fifty men in each group.
These young demons had the responsibility of growing medicinal herbs of the most ordinary kind such as moon shade mushrooms, blood grass, poisonous ivy, and various other herbs. All of the medicinal herbs that they harvested grew rapidly due to the air that was filled with soul energy. This dark environment was the ideal place for these certain herbs to grow and Diyu not only imported goods but also exported quite a lot of goods as well, especially very basic medicinal herbs.
Hui Yue thought he had learned a lot about the Netherworld, Diyu, and the Ten Courts of Hell when he was studying in the black palace, but only now did he realize that he had not even learned a fraction about all the mysteries that existed within this land of death.
On the trip, Yanluo explained everything to them about what they saw below.
These demons were all Gods, but many of them lived life like mortals did in the other worlds and the rest of the Netherworld.
Only now did Hui Yue understand that although the demons were a race created by the Judges of Hell, they were now a race as abundant as humans throughout the galaxy, and they had people living in all different tiers of society. Not many demons had been created, and most of their race was created naturally from marriage resulting in countless descendants.
They did not only see demons. Throughout the villages, there were also souls living as well. These souls were often a lot weaker than the demons, but all of them were treated as equals.
"Some souls refuse to wander the Plains of Despair. They refuse to forget the memories of their previous life, even if that means that they will not be reborn. To them, they still value their memories more than having another life, and they chose to live in Diyu instead."
"In Diyu it is illegal to destroy the souls of others, and thus it is relatively safe. However, there are a few bandits groups which roam Diyu and harvest soul energy to cultivate with. They also rob and kill the Gods that move goods to and from the Ten Courts of Hell."
"But don't worry, if the bandits are stupid enough to attack then I will personally interfere." Yanluo laughed as he spoke, and Hui Yue felt his scalp go numb. If the King of Hell were to personally act would there even be anything left? This was something Hui Yue greatly wished to see.
Unfortunately for Hui Yue, the trip was incredibly calm. Their group was too intimidating to be attacked by any bandit group. Firstly they rode on flood dragons, dragons which were all equal to Immortals of Creation in power. All of them had the bloodline of a true dragon in their bodies. Secondly, they were a hundred experts of various strength riding on their backs. Although there were a few new Gods, the majority weren't. For these reasons, it was obvious nobody would throw their lives away no matter how many treasures they thought all these Gods were holding.
Some caravans that came by looked at them with envious eyes and some even tried to get closer and become friends so that they could travel together.
The same answer was given to every single one of the groups though, no one was allowed to enter their group, and those who were the pushiest ones were deterred by the guards. No one lost their lives, but everyone understood that if they kept pestering this group of experts that would very likely be the end result.
Thus they continued onwards in peace. Hui Yue, who had seen everything there was to see about the surroundings decided to spend the rest of his time cultivating. Although he had planned on keeping his ability to devour a secret, the blue cloud was no longer a secret after being displayed at the banquet. As he was seated on the broad back of the flood dragon, he closed his eyes and shrouded himself with the blue cloud. Suddenly the speed at which he was absorbing soul energy and Ancestral Worldpower from the surrounding areas increased by at least three times.
Noticing the change, everyone looked at him with surprise as they felt how the energy of the Noticing the change, everyone looked at him with surprise as they felt how the energy of the area rushed towards him. They watched shocked as Hue Yue greedily absorbed energy. Soon though, they realized that because this blue cloud was drawing in energy from the surroundings, the energy around Hui Yue was much denser than anywhere else, therefore, everyone sat down to cultivate. To let such a chance slip away was silly.
The density of energy was so rich that it matched continuously consuming high-grade pills, and because of this their souls truly advanced by leaps and bounds.
Although some of this was because they were in Diyu, the best place to fill the ancestral worldpower pool and also the best place to strengthen one's soul, the majority of this was because of the strong absorption of Hui Yue's blue cloud.
Especially Pei Feng, Pei Ze, and the young expert from the Nightcrawler Sect they benefitted greatly. These three were the closest to Hui Yue, and they were all new Gods, so their souls showed the biggest change of all the experts present. Their foundations were being rapidly formed.
Hui Yue soon noticed that his absorption was benefitting the others as well, but he really did not care. Although it helped the others, their speed of absorption could never match his. Thus he just rotated the energy in his body sucking in so much energy that he felt as if his body would explode from the sheer pressure.
His body itself absorbed all the Ancestral Worldpower, and his soul absorbed all the soul energy. The more soul energy he absorbed, the stronger his soul became, and he was becoming more and more like a true Primordial Immortal and less like a new God.
Diyu was as big as the outside of the Netherworld, and although they were headed for the capital of the First Court of Hell, the city closest to Youdu, it still took them a full week to travel the distance.
During this week they had not encountered any dangers, and they had flown the entire time. The first couple of days Hui Yue listened to Yanluo explain the situation below them. From Yanluo, he had gathered a good basic understanding about how Diyu worked, but as time went by Yanluo spoke less and less, and so after a while, Hui Yue closed his eyes and started to cultivate instead.
Although five days might not seem like a lot, it was truly an earth-shattering difference for Hui Yue. The soul energy within this area was so dense that his soul had gotten twice as strong as before. Now his body was bursting with Ancestral Worldpower and Hui Yue could felt what it really was like to be a God.
It was not just Hui Yue, but the three other younger generation members were also ecstatic. They had benefitted greatly from joining this trial. Not only had Yanluo kept his word and provided them with first class resources for cultivation, but they had also managed to strengthen their soul to at least double what it was before. Their strength was now twice as much as it had been before! If the rest of their sects knew this, they would be stunned.
All three were painfully aware that this was all thanks to Hui Yue, but while Pei Ze put the gratitude at heart and wished to repay him later, should he have the possibility to do so, Pei Feng and the youth from the Nightcrawler Sect were more hesitant.
They were aware that Hui Yue had done this for his own benefit and allowed them to leech off him so, despite the fact that they benefited, they still felt enmity towards him in their hearts. Pei Feng could not help but feel severely threatened by Hui Yue as this young man would most likely become the top genius of the Celestial Sword Sect, and his heart burned with jealousy.
The youth from the Nightcrawler Sect felt some enmity towards Hui Yue as well. This was because he feared that if this young man survived, then he would bring the Celestial Sword Sect to new heights.
As the seventh day ended, Hui Yue withdrew the blue cloud much to the dismay of all the cultivators on the flood dragons. Though, when they noticed that his eyes were fixated on something in the distance, they all turned their heads to see what he was looking at and their hearts filled with excitement.
They no longer cared about Hui Yue's blue cloud. Instead, they all looked at the city that was towering in the distance. The amount of Gods that appeared in their surroundings was also constantly increasing. On the ground, one could see demons moving towards the city on foot.
The closer they came, the more Gods they encountered, but unlike their previous time, no one bothered them. Everyone made space for them, and the arrogant flood dragons all roared in the sky as they charged towards the city.
It was illegal to fly within the cities of Diyu, but these flood dragons managed to bypass the formations that had been cast over the city. Everyone in the city looked to the sky where they saw a whole group of flood dragons flying towards the First Judge of Hell’s palace.
Uproar exploded in the city as they all knew what it meant if someone could fly within the city; it meant that Yanluo, himself, had personally appeared. To have the King of Hell appear was simply something that many of them could not comprehend. He was the king that they had heard about but never seen. He was the hidden ruler of the land, and all of them gathered on the streets to look at the beasts that were descending from the sky above.
