Chapter 673: When the Rain Continues
“That’s right,” Sir Chad continued with this conversation. He was apparently undaunted by my inner monologuing—as a true Chad should. “It’s a remnant of great import to us as our world is now sealed.”
****
“Sealed. That sounds bad. That’s bad, right?” I asked him.
“Uh, y-yes it is,” he said as if he didn’t expect me to agree with him. Seriously, how do people see me?
He went silent for a while after that. It reminded me of myself when I was reminiscing. I assumed that’s what he was doing, remembering what it was like back then… before his home was sealed.
He then broke the silence, saying. “It was sealed a long time ago,” and it was here that his anger surged and I could feel the heat in the house rise to incredible levels. It was followed by a terrible killing intent as he allowed whatever memories he had buried to run through him unabated.
“And it was all because of those damned, accursed Holy S—”
Vrrrm!
Suddenly, a formless pressure formed and I could feel it coil around me before he quickly shut his mouth. I assume he felt whatever I felt as cold sweat had formed on his brow at some point.
Once that feeling disappeared, a rush of hot air assaulted me as he let loose a breath of relief.
“Even after all these years, the karma involved in this matter is still so terrifying.” His voice sounded aged all of a sudden. “It looks like there is no hope.”
His killing intent vanished before it was replaced by an air of sadness. This I felt and knew very well.
“So it’s sealed,” I nibbled at this little morsel of knowledge for a while. Nothing else would come from him, that, I knew.
Karma was that plot device in cultivation novels that could be used to drip-feed exposition from knowledgeable people at a rate the author wanted. Oh, how I hated it sometimes.
Yet it was necessary. And after feeling it for myself, I can confidently say it would make any other eleven-year-old shat themselves.
What it did mean though, was that there was a secret involved here; a secret so great that it was entangled in the karmic lines of fate to such an obscene degree, that I could feel those very same lines for a moment.
They didn’t hurt mind you, but something in the depths of me told me that they carried with them a different kind of danger, a peril that lived outside the realm of reasonability. It was something that would find me and sink its claws into my flesh and subject me to its relentless hounding.
So they were more or less like debt collectors.
But I digress, the seal troubled me… obviously. A small world was sealed. Who sealed it, and for what reason?
“I’m sorry,” he suddenly apologised to me, which confused me. Why apologise to me? It wasn’t as if my small world was sealed.
“Your technique was created in tandem with the sages from our small world and a demon.” He suddenly delved into the subject of the origin of the technique. “A stray cultivator from the Demon Region was injured and our people healed him. As he stayed with us, we learned he was gifted in the forging arts. As he earned our favour, he along with the ancestors created a cultivation technique and forging method that went hand in hand.”
He stopped all of a sudden as if to compile his thoughts and I stayed quiet as a result. Far be it from me to interrupt him and stop the first decent drop of lore I got since I came here.
This lore soup was hella delicious, and I channelled my inner Gluttony from Fullmetal Alchemist—of course, I meant Brotherhood (I recognise no others)—so I won’t even leave the bones behind. Lord knows if I don’t do it now I’ll probably starve before I get my next fix.
He then went on. “It’s a set of sorts, the two of them. Using one without the other begets destruction.”
“If I wanted to find a complete set of this cultivation method, would it exist anywhere else, apart from the ruins of the Hellfire Forge Clan?” I asked him.
“Complete method?” His gaze on me narrowed. “Why would you need a complete method? What happened?”
I sat there under his gaze, and the faint crackle played its symphony through the silence.
I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to but because I wanted to make sure I said something mature. As a disciple of my current master, I had to take on the responsibility for what happened. Meaning that anything that happened to the sect is on me as well.
“We’ve lost the last chapter of the Foundation Forge Body Tempering Art.”
Dum!
“You what!?” The Lord of the Chads roared as his cauldrons exploded into being behind him.
“And by we, I mean everyone else. I wasn’t even a part of the sect at that time. Are they careless or what?” Now I know I said I would share responsibility and all that but you need to understand something, I decided not to… I regret nothing.
“What happened!?” Flame manumitted themselves through furious gnashing teeth.
“I was only told that there was a war that shook the world itself. The clan suffered great damage and through the darkness, those who were to be its allies struck them from behind. The last chapter was lost afterwards and the clan itself declined into obscurity.”
He sank into silence after I finished. His expression wasn’t good, but I told him all I knew, all that Master told me, and hoped he could point me in the right direction.
…
👁🗨
Temple Lord
“You fool! Why would you get involved!?”
“He is my sworn brother! How could I leave him in his time of need!? I am a man of my word!”
“You know nothing! That child brings destruction no matter where he goes and now the Infernal Myriad Ground Clan AND the Iron Body Forge Sect are watching us!”
Of all the things that could happen, this was the absolute worst! I sent this fool into the Spiritual Bingqi Realm to get more experience, get his hands on a spiritual artefact AND build his relationship with the Iron Body Sect and the Infernal Myriad Ground Clan, and he somehow managed to ruin it!
Barring the procurement of a spiritual artefact, he ruined everything!
I wonder if I could run away. Truly, no one can blame me if I wanted to do that, right?
“Temple Lord!” Savage Taitan called out to me, causing me to focus on him once more.
I found myself inspecting his monstrous physique once more. Savage Taitan was the perfect person to be the prime disciple of Nether Immolation War Temple.
He had a Tian Level Earth Grade physique, but more than that, he had a trace bloodline of the ancient Titan race.
His large stature lent credence to this claim, and the dim runes that covered his body further confirmed this assertion. It’s just a shame that his brain isn’t as strong as the rest of him.
Seriously, he had the bare minimum of brain cells to not drown in his own saliva!
“What?” My annoyance was growing stronger by the day since the Demon Region has been in turmoil ever since that child came here. Even when he’s gone, the effects are still here and I daresay they are even worse!
“I wish to go out for experiential training,” Savage Taitan declared.
A vein bulged on my forehead. I could feel it! “You fool did I not say that you should stay in the sect!?”
“I need to get stronger so I can be worthy to stand by First Brother Long Di’s side!”
“You!” My anger blinded me for an instant! My fists were already clenched, but unfortunately, my self-control won out.
Through no small effort, I took a deep breath and spoke calmly. Though, the tremor in my voice betrayed my struggles to do so. “If you go out now, there is no doubt that you will be attacked by the Iron Body Forge Sect and the Infernal Myriad Ground Clan! Stay in the sect for now!”
“What am I supposed to do in the sect!?” He stomped on the ground, which was left with a deep imprint. I internally acknowledged his strength. After the attack we suffered at the hands of that boy, we spent a large number of resources to rebuild.
It was far stronger than it was in the past. For him to damage the ground like this showed that he was much stronger than before, but he was still infuriating!
“I’ll just rot here! What am I to do!?” He stomped again out of anger.
“Call on your concubines you imbecile! You were allowed to keep concubines for purposes such as this!”
“I mean to get stron—well… I can get stronger in that way but that’s not what I meant!”
He smirked when my stomach turned at the thought. I truly didn’t want to think about the days when this idiot’s libido was as great as his thirst for battle. We actually had to bring in a specialised array master to lay down a soundproof formation around his residence since the last elder got tired of just standing there to erect a shield.
The last thing I wanted to do today was to have a conversation with my disciple about… that subject.
Suddenly, an idea came to me. There was an easy-to-end this conversation. “Then why don’t you accompany the Shidashi Linghun?”
His face immediately scrunched up in displeasure at my proposal, and that was enough for me to know it was still effective.
“That idea again?” His smirk was long gone and his eyes darted around as if looking for someone. “I told you I don’t want to get involved with her.”
“I only want you to cultivate with her.”
“I refuse! You can’t make me!” His panic grew, and I had to admit that seeing him squirm like this was enjoyable.
“I have no idea why you’re so averse to the idea,” I commented. This was true as Savage Taitan didn’t have much in the way of chivalry, so his not wanting to fight with her didn’t make much sense to me.
Moreover, when I first told him that she was his so-called first brother’s friend, he was so excited in the beginning but that excitement died as soon as he saw her.
Now he wanted nothing to do with her. The only good thing that came from this was that whenever I brought her up, I could use her to get rid of him. Even if she wasn’t the Shidashi Linghun, just this ability alone made her a truly useful trump card of mine.
“I just don’t want to deal with her!”
The same answer as always.
“You called for me Temple Lord?”
A soft voice echoed within the building that put a smile on my face and a chill through the spine of Savage Taitan.
When I saw his face though, shock found me as truly as it ever did.
It makes so much sense now!
I looked at Feng Yu who walked in with strong strides and a strong gaze. I couldn’t help but be in awe at her strength. After pouring in so many resources, she didn’t let us down and was now a Six Duan Martial Disciple.
“I wanted you to accompany Savage Taitan and—”
Boom!
A massive explosion erupted, causing both me and Feng Yu to look over in shock to see a Taitan Xiong-shaped hole in the wall and a quickly fleeing figure as the only evidence of what just happened.
Just then, a shout echoed across the sect from the figure as he made his way from here which caused me to slap my forehead in frustration while the Shidashi Linghun’s face reddened in embarrassment and anger.
“First Brother’s woman is off limits! Third brother is a good brother!”
