Chapter 673: When the Rain Continues
As Long Di conversed with Long Zhe and Mina about their current situation, he had no idea that his brother conspired against him by assuming the role of the ultimate wingman.
****
“Alright, that’s just about it.” You only get as much as you give I guess.
“You’re satisfied?” Long Zhe asked.
Mina crossed her arms. “Satisfied is a strong word. More like eating a cupcake, but not the wrapper. You have no idea how unsatisfying that is. It’s just… livable after… barely by the way.”
“So we’re done here, right?” Long Zhe asked.
Mina and I were discussing things with the bigger-than-life dragon. Conversing with these things is a little harder than talking to other people. He’s not too dumb and considering what world I’m in, I can’t ask for much.
“We’re done-ish” I gave him what I could only describe as dysfunctional jazz hands to reinforce what I was saying.
He looked at me for a while in confusion. I guess he doesn’t know what jazz hands are. What a sad world we live in.
He then took off into the skies until I was unable to see him.
I stared in the direction he went and was relieved that he didn’t go far enough away to the point the draconic aura couldn’t be felt. If there was one thing I realised, it was that the draconic aura made, what I was sure would be a very lively forest, into a pretty nice tropical vacation.
I then looked over to where Shen Ling and Pebbles were talking in hushed tones. They had their backs to me and at one point they looked over their shoulders to glance at me before turning back to talk even more animatedly and in even husher—I made it a word—tones if you could believe it.
I don’t see that working out for me in the long run. Hold on, did Shen Ling just turn around to look at me? How does that even make sense?
I shook my head free of these thoughts before I walked over to where Xiannu Liang was cultivating and sat criss-cross applesauce in front of her.
I waited for a good thirty minutes before her cauldrons slowly receded, and she finally opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was me.
“Heavens!”
“Okay, that’s rude,” I told her. There was no reason she had to act like that.
“That was terrifying!” she held her hand to her chest as it furiously rose and fell.
“First of all, what’s really terrifying is whatever Shen Ling and my best friend are conversing about over there. Second of all, I may not have shame but you don’t have to take advantage of it that much.”
“Sorry,” she put up a hand in defence as she spoke. “I was just frightened. Your eyes are pretty lacking… in everything.”
“That may be the lack of Mina’s blessing, to be honest.” I could see the effects of it now. “How ya doing?”
She blinked several times as if the question came out of nowhere. Which, it kinda did, but I was random and acted however I see fit.
“U-Uhm, I’m good? How about you?” she asked.
“Meh.” I gave a shoulder shrug in response. I stuck my thumb behind me over yonder. “I think they’re scheming against me.”
Xiannu Liang looked to see Shen Ling, Pebbles now joined by Mina fervently discussing something.
“Now… lemme ask you once more. Are you okay,” I asked once more.
When she heard how I asked this question, her expression changed a few times before it settled on dejection. It’s hard to tell if that was because of my question or me. I’ve been told I have that effect on people.
“You’re curious about it, huh?” she asked.
I nodded. “Kinda hard not to be. But I do hope you know that I want you to be safe.”
“I know.” She shot me a weak smile in return.
“You wanna talk about it now?”
She fiddled with her fingers before she looked at me a little scared. “Could I maybe talk about it later? It’s a subject that I need to mentally prepare myself for.”
“Sure, whenever you can.”
What she and I were discussing was exactly what it was that made her race one that was fought over if found. This was even though they were supposed to be one of the Five Major Races.
It didn’t seem it was a subject she was in love with so I didn’t push her too far.
“You ready?”
Her brows then furrowed in confusion. “What do you mean?”
It didn’t seem she was able to keep up to speed with me. Oh well, I’m speed-running this thing.
“Dumbfound Billiard Chicken Feed Physique on!”
Hong!
My physique activated in response and a powerful heavenly pressure unfurled that caused Xiannu Liang to pale as the colour drained from her face.
I immediately saw her shrink away as I did this.
I placed my hand on her shoulder to assure her. “Steady your heart.”
Xiannu Liang started to take deep breaths to collect herself.
‘I had a weird feeling back when I used my heavenly pressure in tandem with my voice. What was that all about? It’s like I could control everything. Well, shit still hit the fan but still… that’s the feeling I got.’
“I-I think I’m ready.” Xiannu Liang’s voice broke my thoughts, and I saw that she was much better than before. She was still a little pale, but that’s all there was to it.
It would seem her time in the denial of my cultivation technique had strengthened her will a great deal. Even earlier when I had erected my qi shield to protect everyone from the draconic aura of Long Zhe, I hadn’t been able to block it entirely, but Xiannu Liang actually fared much better than I had expected.
Whoosh!
A powerful surge of spiritual energy wafted from me in unending waves as my focus was on the spiritual vein root.
It was like a sun blazing with spiritual energy as a silvery radiance lit up the space around it for countless miles.
I realised that there were no spiritual stones around and was wondering what that was all about. Then again, time could be a factor.
“Okay, I’m gonna start now.” I held up two hands with my palms facing Xiannu Liang.
What do I–”
“Just do what I’m doing,” I instructed her.
She held her hands out just like I did and our palms touched; I clasped her hands, bringing a faint blush on her face.
I swear, the level of modesty the people in the olden days possess is insane. If they had television here, they’d probably pixelate the scene of me holding her hands while calling us shameless.
Before she could react, an overwhelming volume of spiritual energy rushed into her body causing her eyes to widen in shock.
“You DO have the spiritual vein roo–”
“Stop wasting my spiritual energy. We’re gonna raise your cultivation base a bit. I’m thinking Three Core Martial Adept.”
Her expression turned to one of shock. “You want me to raise two whole realms! That’s too much!”
“Less talk, more action!”
“Long Di no!”
Whoosh!
