Yang Fuyou made sure to speak in such a way that he didn’t put Long Di and the dragons on the same level, whilst not being inherently disrespectful to Long Di.

This was because if his intuition was correct about the current state of affairs, this was the only way he could live!

“Alright, so the dragons came to meet your family and didn’t kill them outright. That alone is inconceivable, especially when you consider that Thunder Cloud City is not even seen as a city by most other places. To make things more baffling, your family was taken by them. Now if the dragons wanted to kill your family, they wouldn’t care who saw. They would have done it then and there, maybe taking the city with them. Doing things in the shadows is below them,” Yang Fuyou advised.

“The mere fact that the dragons ‘cared’ enough to take your family away means that there is some connection there. You might think that they don’t care, but they wouldn’t have taken your family away if they didn’t.”

I pondered deeply about what he was telling me and something came to mind. If this is what I think it is, then oh boy.

“In the last couple of years, eleven years ago to be exact, did something major happen that included the dragons?”

Yang Fuyou looked taken aback by my question, but he thought about it for a while before he answered. “Yes, actually. Eleven years ago, there was a major commotion that shocked the continent involving the dragons. Apparently, a very terrifying existence came into being there back then.”

Sweet mother molasses. Pebbles was a Dragon!?

It wouldn’t make sense otherwise, but now it was coming together. They should be safe then.

Are they actually true dragons!? I need to ask when I see him again. You go Pebbles!

Yang Fuyou took my silence as me being disappointed by the lack of information since he hurriedly added. “I-It’s difficult to get information from the Dragon’s Domain. Looking too deeply can result in destruction, while staying too far away will yield nothing of significance. I’m sorry that we’re not abl—”

“You have a deal,” I stood up and extended my hand for a shake and he looked at me quizzically.

Were handshakes not a thing in ancient China? Wow! I just mean wow!

“Wait what!? C-Come again?” Though the handshake confused him, he just heard what I said and reacted. He’s not the brightest crayon in the crayon box, is he?

He’s probably caught off guard since I agreed so quickly, especially when he didn’t even explain the details of his proposal as yet. But he doesn’t think I don’t know, does he?

“I said you have a deal. We can shake on it if you’d like,” I wonder what’ll happen if I introduce the concept of shaking hands.

“But you don’t even know what I want,” said Yang Fuyou as he looked at my hand like I was the most in-your-face beggar ever.

Well, screw me sideways. He does think I’m stupid.

“You said you wanted to make an investment in me, whilst also being a disciple of a sect whose dao is, simply put, literally about business and money. The only thing you could want from me is to help you make money. The only way I can do that is by going far on the martial path. Common sense dictates that you will support me in this endeavour, hence the investment, so I can make a substantial return. Is this not the case?”

“How did you know?” Yang Fuyou asked in mild shock.

“Because I’m not stupid. Now shake my hand like this,” I demonstrated how to do it with my free hand. If there was no context here, that would sound so weird.

“Then when you’re done, give me my stuff, refrain from screwing me over, and we’ll have a decent partnership.”

Yang Fuyou stood up with a smile and awkwardly shook my hand. Sweet lord, he looked handicapped doing it.

I took the lead in doing it, so he could follow along. After a while, enlightenment dawned on his face and his smile brightened.

“I see! Long Di, this new etiquette, is this gesture something unique to your family?” he asked.

“Nooo?” I responded. Why was he asking this?

“I think I can make this a staple among businessmen!” Are you okay with me adopting this practice?”

“Knock yourself out,” I couldn’t care less what he wanted to do with this practice. As long as he didn’t scratch his butthole and then shook hands with people, I was fine with it.

He cocked his head to the side in confusion. “Knock myself… out? You don’t want me to—”

“Oh for Pete’s sake, just do what you want,” I keep forgetting these people aren’t used to these turns of phrases.

“Great!” His smile returned full force once more.

“I’ll need some help from you,” I told him. Might as well make use of him right now.

Yang Fuyou didn’t even blink at this request. He had to show that he was willing to do what it takes to keep such an investment satisfied. “What do you need?”

“I need a map, the biggest and most detailed map you can find.”

“Done,” Yang Fuyou patted his chest with a smile.

“I also need a bestiary and herbiary for research purposes,” I needed to amass knowledge about the different kinds of magical beasts and about the different medicinal plants and treasures out there. There were no books that touched exclusively on these subjects in his father’s library.

“Easy,” Yang Fuyou waved it off.

“I’ll also need a book or scroll about basic formations, and a few hundred pounds of metal ores. Even scrap metal is okay.”

“Consider it done,” Yang Fuyou reassured, totally unmoved.

“Is there anything else you’d like to inquire about?” Yang Fuyou asked.

“Yes, actually. How do you feel about slavery?”

“I hate it,” Yang Fuyou said without a moment’s hesitation.

“Great, that’s gonna make this much easier. Say that I found a Nymph in my travels, and I wish to send it back home, what would be the challenges I would face?”

“If it became widely known, you would be met upon by sects, clans, bandits and all manner of groups who would stop at nothing to have you dead and take such a creature away.”

“I’m not a creature!”

I was legit concerned for my own safety that I was travelling with someone who just did what they did.

I turned around to look at Xiannu Liang who just realised what she did and pulled her cowl down even more like she didn’t just give herself away. “You are dead set to show me how ill-equipped your intelligence is today, aren’t you?”

Hearing this outburst, Yaomu Shou looked towards Xiannu Liang in shock, since she couldn’t believe that a Nymph was with her this whole time.

Yang Fuyou couldn’t believe it. “L-Long Di, please tell m-me that isn’t a-a-a—”

“Well, the cat’s out of the bag, so… what of it? You don’t do slavery, can I take your word for it?”

Yang Fuyou got up in a hurry and looked to Huli Ruo who was standing by the side the entire time, “Get the rest of the stuff he asked for right now! We don’t have much time!”

Is this undue urgency? That doesn’t sound good. “What are you—”

“Long Di, I am throwing in my lot with you on this one. So you need to trust me when I say that you are in an incredible amount of danger, and unless you want to die, we need to move right now!”
